Google App Engine New York Hack-a-thon

Yesterday, Google App Engine held our first ever hack-a-thon at the Google Office in New York City. We had a great turn out of App Engine developers. Some programmed along with us, building a wiki, and some developers brought along their own ideas and spent the day building some awesome applications.

At the end of the day, a few developers even came up and presented their work:
  • An application that provides 'a simple API for writing and reading small chunks of data from anywhere' : http://tinydb.org/
  • An app that adds photos to the developer's facebook account
  • An Open Source Django utility project: http://code.google.com/p/django-ae-utils/
  • An application that searches for clinical trials based on keywords
  • An application that uses GWT, Maps and Gears to track and map appointments and uses App Engine to keep the client side data synced
  • An app where users can list items for sale and get emails from interested buyers: http://sellstuff.appspot.com/

We look forward to seeing you at the San Francisco Hack-a-thon on May 16th

a month in pictures

So... despite that last post saying we're bored, we actually do do stuff on the weekends! So, here, for your viewing pleasure, a month in pictures (because my Mom says so.) :)

Up first, grilling out at Steph & Cat's! (Not grilling Steph's cat... no worries Rachel.) Yay for bring-your-own-meat night!
bird's eye view... or the balcony. either one :)

love these girls...

Up next, our wonderful trip to Waco. Ahh... Baylor. We missed you.

beautiful day!! couldn't have been more gorgeous outside.

Baylor Journalism department... where we fell in love :) aw. Who knows if we'd be married today if we didn't end up having the same major and minor!

pretty sure this is "Lady"

sitting on a swing looking at the trees and listening to the bells... ahh...

the only picture I got in Salado...but we had such an amazing time enjoying the beautiful weather and the quaint antique shops. it's one of ryan's favorite places :)

And now, the Cinco de Mayo party we threw at our apartment. We LOVE having people over and entertaining! I wish it wasn't so expensive to host though! We had a great time with all of our friends, and enjoyed the fajitas, chips & queso and margaritas (minister safe & non-minister safe). Ryan was sad that I didn't get a picture of him and the guys grilling out, but they did a great job, and we're still eating the leftovers!

Ash & K-Rho enjoying the margaritas...

the spread. yay for using our wedding gifts!

playing some Guitar Hero. gotta love it.

don't worry. Steph's was minister-safe :)

the McCradys!

We didn't even have room for Machen's baby shower & raising the cross at the new church site! Hopefully that will come soon... Yay!

Fast and easy access to Google on Sprint phones

Today we're happy to announce that we'll be working with Sprint to provide quick and easy access to Google search, Google Maps for mobile, YouTube, and other Google mobile services on Sprint's new generation of consumer devices. Google will also be the default search provider on the Sprint portal, and Sprint will enable users to take advantage of location data for Google search and Google Maps for mobile on certain devices.

On some of Sprint's upcoming devices, you'll be able to get to the web with even greater ease with one-click access to Google search from your phone's home screen. In the spirit of openness, you'll be able to add, change, or delete your preferred search provider at any time. Also, having more location data available for Google Search and Maps will make it easier and faster for you to get directions and search results for nearby restaurants, shops, services, and more.

We're always looking for ways to work with carriers, device manufacturers, software providers, and others to help you get the information and content you need, whenever and wherever you need it. To learn more about how Sprint and Google will be working together, take a look at our press release.

We also announced today our investment alongside Sprint, Comcast, Intel, Time Warner, and others in a new wireless broadband company, Clearwire. The company is developing a nationwide mobile WiMax network that will adopt open standards and policies that can ultimately make your mobile broadband experience more internet like.
