Google App Engine Hackathon: Atlanta & Ann Arbor

Please join us in November for a Google App Engine Hackathon in Atlanta and Ann Arbor. Not only can you learn more about App Engine, but you can also share ideas with local developers, look for partners on your latest project, get support, brainstorm, and network.

Learn about Google App Engine

There will be talks on the major features of Google App Engine at different points throughout the day. We will run through developing an app with the SDK and show how to deploy and manage applications on Google App Engine. Google App Engine and Python enthusiasts from the community will be on hand to help and to answer questions throughout the day.

Build With Us, or Build Your Own

You are welcome to bring along anything you can prepare ahead of time (sketches, designs, web page mock ups, etc.) and use the time and information provided to develop your idea into a working application, then share it with the world. Or, you can code along with us in building a Google App Engine application from start to finish.

What Do I Need?

There will be power, refreshments and Python enthusiasts to help you learn to use Google App Engine and write your application. Just bring your laptops, ideas and enthusiasm to complete the mix.

Suds with the boys on Wednesday Night

Its time to cram - the last day of the exhibition was the usual frantic start as exhibitors, delegates and the press were all busy trying to squeeze in as many last minute appointments as possible. By the end of the day, the cumulative impact of talking and listening, demoing, brainstorming, and answering questions had left most attendees with depleted energy reserves. Certainly by 4:30, as the work crews arrived to tear down the exhibition stands and pull up the carpet, I was ready to take my notes from three days of meetings and pack it up.
Richard Mumford and I have identified many excellent editorial opportunities for the new year and I will need the plane ride home just to organize all the proposed articles, webinars, white papers and special projects onto the 2009 editorial calendar. I am very excited with the way next year is shaping up for editorial and this show has been a big contributor, thanks to both the conference and the exhibitors. I will be writing a show wrap-up to conclude our live coverage of EuMW 2008.

I hope many of you have had the chance to visit our Online Show Daily (OSD) coverage (http://www.mwjournal.com/2008/EUMW/) - the exhibitor perspectives, chairmen messages, the blogs, podcasts, videos (as part of the Virtual Trade Stands) and special articles. The show site will be updated with several remaining new posts through the early part of next week after which we will keep the site available for our readers to use as a reference. The Journal staff at the show and back in our Norwood offices worked very hard to bring you this show coverage and we would like to hear back from you. Let us know what you liked and what you might like different.
Finally, I'd like to thank our OSD sponsors - RFMD, Rohde & Schwarz and TriQuint Semiconductor. Signing off from Amsterdam , this is David Vye. Safe travels home.

happy halloweenie

Halloween sure has been interesting so far...

1. I just voted next to a lady wearing a cat costume.

2. This morning in Starbucks, Michael Phelps walked in. Okay, not the real guy. But can you believe there are costumes for him?!? Oh yeah, then Marilyn Monroe walked in after that. What a morning.

3. When I parked at work today, the car next to me had a HUGE keg in the front seat. They must have had a hard week like I did...

4. There were two earthquakes last night... in Texas! What!?

5. JCP had their annual "kid parade" featuring all the children from the daycare... It was so cute seeing them in their little costumes!
